Upcoming Event Highlight:
Nancy Pearl at the Team Read Spring Benefit Luncheon
February 23, 2017 | Category: About Sasquatch
If you love reader-advisor extraordinaire and action librarian Nancy Pearl as much as we do, there’s a chance to meet her in person—and it’s for a good cause. Nancy will be speaking at the Spring Benefit Luncheon for Team Read on Thursday, March 2. Sasquatch Books is proud to be an in-kind donor for this event; we’re providing over 300 books from the Book Lust series so that every attendee can go home with a free book.
Team Read is a Seattle-area literacy nonprofit that trains teens to act as reading tutors for low-income elementary school students. The second- and third-grade students get a personalized boost to their reading skills at a vitally important moment in their development. The teen tutors benefit too—working as tutors provides them with entry-level work experience, college savings or volunteer hours, and the patience and communication skills that will carry them forward into a productive, compassionate adulthood.
The Spring Benefit Luncheon will be held at the Westin Seattle, with doors opening at 11:30 and the event beginning at noon. Nancy Pearl will be the keynote speaker, and she’ll stick around after her speech to sign copies of her books. She’s just as funny and engaging as a speaker as she is in print, and we can’t think of a better way to support a good cause like Team Read.
