Jobs
Sasquatch Books is based in Seattle, Washington, with a staff of 15 people. When we have job openings, we generally advertise in local Seattle papers, such as Seattle Weekly or Seattle Times, and often in Publishers Weekly, a national book industry magazine. We will also list any current job openings on this page. Please note that we accept resumes only for open positions.
EDITORIAL INTERNSHIP
Sasquatch Books is currently accepting applications for quarterly editorial internships.
Duration and Compensation:
Internships are unpaid, but provide invaluable hands-on experience. Internships typically last ten weeks. Specific schedules are somewhat flexible, but we require interns to work at least ten hours a week.
Qualifications:
A keen editorial eye, excellent writing skills, self-motivation, and a desire to learn are crucial. Also required are: research and organizational skills, familiarity with standard proofreading marks and the Chicago Manual of Style, and proficiency in standard Office programs. A working knowledge of InDesign, though not required, is a bonus.
Duties and Opportunities:
As the editorial intern, your main function is assisting the editorial staff, usually by helping with production editorial tasks such as cross-checking manuscripts, fact-checking guidebooks, composing submissions correspondence, managing CIP filing, and performing general clerical tasks. We also hope that the internship will provide you with a clear view of what it’s like to work in book publishing, and how the process of acquiring, producing, designing, and selling a book works. In addition to working closely with the editorial staff on projects, you are invited to attend any departmental meetings that you are interested in. By attending these meetings, you will get a better feel for what we do and how each department contributes to making and selling our books.
Resulting Job Possibilities:
Although in-house positions are scarce, exceptional interns have been hired in freelance roles.
